Rep. Foushee Votes Against Republican Budget Resolution That Prioritizes ICE Over Addressing The Cost of Living

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 30, 2026) - Congresswoman Valerie Foushee (NC-04) released the following statement after voting against S. Con. Res 33, a Republican budget resolution which provides another $70 billion to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, while failing to address the over 15 million Americans being kicked off their healthcare after the passage of Trump's Big, Ugly Bill.

"Republicans keep trying to hand another massive check to ICE, which has been linked to the deaths of American citizens and detainees, by using TSA and FEMA funding as bargaining chips. ICE's continued abuses of power have been well-documented, and Republican's insistence on further funding this agency shows how out-of-touch they truly are. This legislation does nothing to deliver the accountability the American people are demanding, and an additional $70 billion will effectively lock in funding for ICE for the remainder of the Trump Administration, further eroding Congress's constitutional power of the purse.

"I have been clear that I believe that ICE should be dismantled and defunded. Congress should be clawing back previously approved funding for this rogue agency, not allocating billions in taxpayer dollars to enable the continued demonization of our immigrant communities.

"ICE puts every single one of us at risk, and I will not stop fighting to end its inhumane immigration enforcement and detention practices. Congress should be better than providing another blank check for an agency that violates Americans' human rights, but under the Republican majority, it clearly is not."
