Commonwealth University-Lock Haven faculty members Jessica Diehl, physician associate studies and Stephen Streator, biological and health sciences, have partnered with Central Mountain High School and Jersey Shore Area High School Heath Careers CTE programs.

The partnership helps to offer students insight into different career options in healthcare, techniques clinicians use in medical practice and provide some "hands-on" laboratory experience that high school students would not normally receive during a traditional college open house event. This helps the students to define their interests, get a feel for college-level instruction and apply some of the knowledge from their CTE curriculum.

"A college education is a big investment; we find that it pays to 'kick the tires' in choosing the right program," Streator said. "It is somewhat difficult for many to find time to come to campus for a visit. Jessica and I are trying to make these connections easier for our local students."

The hands-on experiences are made possible through funds available from CU Admissions Mini-Grant.
