There's more than love in the air as "Oklahoma Gardening" kicks off its 51st year on Feb. 14 on local OETA channels.

For more than half a century, "Oklahoma Gardening" has remained a trusted source for practical, research-based information for novice and seasoned gardeners, said Casey Hentges, Oklahoma State University Extension associate specialist and show host.

"As horticulture continues to grow across the state, 'Oklahoma Gardening' will continue its legacy of cutting-edge information and tips to help gardeners around the state be successful in their gardening endeavors," Hentges said. "Last year we celebrated our golden anniversary, and we'll continue to build on our rich gardening history this year."

This season will expand the show's focus on the relationship between gardens and the environment. New features will explore how gardens influence, and are influenced by, factors such as soil health, water quality, wildlife, wildfire impacts and sustainable landscape practices. These segments aim to help viewers better understand the broader environmental context of their gardens while offering practical steps they can apply at home.

Hentges said "Oklahoma Gardening" will also showcase new and expanded plant highlights, encouraging gardeners to diversify their landscapes, improve resilience and make informed plant selections for long-term success.

"Our viewers know that our crew likes to get out into the state, and that will continue this season," Hentges said. "We'll shine the spotlight on public gardens, parks and agritourism destinations as a way to show how horticulture continues to grow, and we can't wait to take our viewers with us."

While the 51st year is chock full of new things, viewers can still expect to receive seasonal tips, plant care guidance and landscape solutions tailored to Oklahoma's unique climate and growing conditions.

"We remain committed to celebrating the people, places and practices shaping the state's horticulture future, while helping gardeners across the state garden smarter and more sustainably," she said.

"Oklahoma Gardening" airs Saturday mornings at 11 a.m. and Sunday afternoons at 3 p.m. on local OETA-TV channels across the state. Viewers can also subscribe to the "Oklahoma Gardening" YouTube channel to see full shows or search for specific segments.
