A new report from the Congressional Budget Office reveals that 3 million kids will lose health insurance because of Donald Trump and Republicans' "One, Big, Beautiful Bill" that slashed $1 TRILLION from Medicaid, the largest cut to healthcare in history, to pay for massive tax cuts for the rich. Trump also made the largest cut to food assistance in history, leaving millions of Americans going hungry, including children.
On top of that, Trump and Republicans refused to extend the enhanced Affordable Care Act premium tax credits, as healthcare premiums skyrocketed for over 20 million Americans. Now, more than one in five people who enrolled in health insurance through HealthCare.gov this year were dropped from coverage for failing to pay their first month's premium.
In response, DNC Rapid Response Director Kendall Witmer released the following statement:
"Donald Trump and Republicans gutted healthcare for millions of Americans, and now even children are paying the price for their disastrous agenda. Working families shouldn't have to worry if they can afford to take their kids to the doctor or emergency room just because Trump and Republicans wanted to hand out tax breaks to their rich friends and wealthy donors."
A whopping 73% of adults now say healthcare affordability is a very big problem for the country. It's no wonder voters are more likely to trust Democrats over Republicans on the issue of healthcare, and nine in ten voters say the issue will influence their decision of who to vote for in the 2026 midterm elections.
