Bynum Announces Congressional Art Competition Winner

Washington, DC - Today, Congresswoman Janelle Bynum (OR-05) announced that Cecilia Coleman from Lake Oswego won the Congressional Art Competition for Oregon's 5th Congressional District, with her piece "Threads of Us." Cecilia's painting is oil on canvas and features three young girls wearing sweaters with a Pendleton wool pattern as the background.

"Congratulations Cecilia on winning the Congressional Art Competition for Oregon's 5th Congressional District!" said Rep. Bynum. "I loved your painting because it showed tenderness - something we need more of today - and because it illustrates a beautiful connection to the iconic Oregon patterns of the Pendleton Wool Co. It embodies the Oregon values of caring for one another and appreciating our heritage. I'm looking forward to walking by it everyday as I walk to and from the Capitol and I can't wait to welcome you when you visit DC!"

"I've been deeply impacted by the work of other artists, and the opportunity to share mine with others is something I have always dreamed of," said Cecilia. "Knowing that my work could affect someone the way art has affected me is incredibly meaningful. Expression is so important, and I feel truly honored to share my perspective with the world."
