Stafford County Recognized in National Survey for Excellence in Information Services

Stafford County proudly announced today its fifth-place finish in the 2026 Digital Counties Survey, a testament to Stafford's strong commitment to stronger technology governance, improved constituent experience and data-informed decision-making. Developed in partnership with the National Association of Counties and conducted by the Center for Digital Government, this prestigious survey placed Stafford in the 150,000-249,999-population category. This is Stafford's third year of being in the top five finishers and the fourth year of being in the top 10.

Now in its 24th year, the survey showcases how counties across the nation are using technology to improve government operations, strengthen public services, and deliver better outcomes for residents. The annual survey evaluates counties across their strengths in strategic planning, cybersecurity, digital services, organizational technology leadership, data management and innovation. It also highlights practices that help counties strengthen performance and navigate fiscal and operational demands.

"Our Information Services team does an outstanding job of staying on top of emerging technology trends plus threats, all to benefit our end user - our residents," stated Bill Ashton, Stafford County Administrator. "Our continued recognition in the Digital Counties Survey takes hard work and dedication and shows we are on the right track."

"Placing in this survey was a goal of ours that we continue to reach. While placing in the top five two years in a row is gratifying, we are still dedicated to making our systems work better for residents," said Stafford Chief Director of Information Services Andrew Spence.

Stafford gained recognition for improvements and upgrades to the IT infrastructure and advancements in AI in local government.

Other innovations cited in the winning nomination include improvements in communications and social media programs.
