On September 9, 2026, Ambassador of China to Cyprus Yang Yundong attended the Workshop on Global Governance Initiative, co-organized by the Chinese Embassy in Cyprus and the Cypriot think tank Politeia Centre for Socio-Political Thinking. More than 30 participants attended the event, including former Minister of Justice and Public Order Anna Koukkides-Procopiou, President of the UN International Law Commission Andreas Mavroyiannis, Chief of Asia and Oceania Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs George Georgiou, as well as experts, scholars and journalists.
Ambassador Yang gave a comprehensive introduction to the background, core principles and significance of the Global Governance Initiative. He noted that over the past year since its inception, the GGI has evolved from a Chinese proposal into international practice and demonstrated strong vitality and broad appeal. China stands ready to work with Cyprus and the international community to jointly promote a more just and equitable global governance system.
Participants spoke highly of the GGI, noting that it brings valuable stability and certainty to a world undergoing turbulence and transformation, responds to the aspirations of small and medium-sized countries for equal participation in global governance, and provides an important platform for strengthening multilateral cooperation and improving the global governance system.
Ambassador Yang also had in-depth exchanges with the participants on topics such as sovereign equality, the role of the UN, and global governance on artificial intelligence.
