Public Art Master Plan Survey

Public art has the power to surprise us, bring neighbors together, tell stories that might otherwise go unheard, and transform places into unforgettable experiences.

The City of Manhattan Beach is developing a new Public Art Master Plan - a vision that will guide the City's public art program over the next decade. But this isn't simply about deciding where to place sculptures. It's about imagining how creativity can shape everyday life in Manhattan Beach and defining the cultural legacy we want to create for future generations.

The City first established its public art program in 2002 with the adoption of a 1% for Art ordinance, creating a dedicated funding source for public art through private development. Since then, the City has commissioned permanent sculptures, murals, and other works throughout the community. As Manhattan Beach's Cultural Arts program continues to evolve, so must our approach to how we bring art and creativity into the public realm.

How should art shape our experience of Manhattan Beach? What stories need to be told? Where can artists help us see our city in new ways?

This survey is your opportunity to help us imagine what's possible. Let's imagine the future together.
