Idaho Power Donation Helps Placerville Build New Pump Station

Placerville will soon have a year-round supply of firefighting water thanks in part to a donation from the Idaho Power Foundation. Today, during the winter, the Placerville Fire Protection District's firefighters have to leave town to refill their 4,000-gallon tankers if they run out of water battling a blaze. That's because the ponds where they normally fill up the tankers freeze in the winter. The time that refill trip takes could be the difference between saving a house and not.

The district plans to build a pump station that will provide water year-round. In addition to a winter-time supply, the pump will cut in half the time it takes to refill the tankers the rest of the year compared to pulling water out of the ponds.

This summer, the Idaho Power Foundation donated $25,000 to help pay for the pump station.

"Safety is a core value at Idaho Power, so helping one of the communities we serve make its members safer was a natural fit," Regional Customer Relations Manager Melanie Pinkston said.
