ICYMI: Cortez Masto Visits Pershing, Humboldt, Lander, and Elko Counties to Discuss Work Fighting for Rural Nevada

Cortez Masto's Visits Focused on Her Work to Support Economic Development and Help Rural Nevadans Navigate the Federal Government

Washington, D.C. - Over the last month, U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) traveled to Pershing, Humboldt, Lander, and Elko Counties to discuss her work to fight for rural Nevada, support projects that create jobs, and help hardworking Nevadans - from ranchers and miners to immigrant families - across the state. The Senator met with local leaders, visited tourism sites across Northern Nevada, and attended the dedication of the Elko National Cemetery which she helped secure.

"I'm committed to ensuring Nevada's rural communities get the investments and support they deserve," said Senator Cortez Masto. "I'll work with anyone to ensure projects like the Elko National Cemetery are completed while making sure this Administration is held responsible for its cuts to the services Nevadans rely on."

Pershing County

In Lovelock, Senator Cortez Masto toured the Marzen House Museum, which has recently been updated with new artifacts from Nevada history.

The Senator also met with leadership and staff from the Frontier Community Coalition to discuss their work to support Pershing, Humboldt, Lander, and Mineral Counties. The coalition noted that following Republican cuts to assistance, as well as rising costs across the board, they have seen an increased demand for their services.

Humboldt and Lander Counties

In Humboldt County, Senator Cortez Masto and Lander County Commissioner Lamont Edgar visited SSR Mining's Marigold Mine site to learn about the facility's gold mining processes and to discuss their community development efforts.

The Senator also visited the site of SSR Mining's Buffalo Valley project in Lander County. They shared how they expect this additional mine to provide economic development to the region, and the Senator discussed her work to advance the Mining Regulatory Clarity Act in Congress.

Elko County

In Elko, Senator Cortez Masto met with local elected officials to discuss their work to support airport operations and continued city planning efforts. Additionally, the Senator met with DACA recipients in Elko, who shared concerns that the Trump Administration is making it harder for them to continuing making a living and supporting their families. The Senator also visited the Northeastern Nevada Museum, which houses art and history exhibits from across the entire northeast corner of the state.

The Senator returned to Elko to attend the dedication of the Elko National Cemetery, the first federal veterans cemetery in the region. The ceremony followed years of work by the Senator to push for the cemetery's completion and celebrated the members of the Veteran community in Elko who worked alongside Cortez Masto to push for the cemetery's opening.
