Our MPs in PACE Stress Conduct of Elections in Kosovo-Metohija Not Smooth

The National Assembly delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) is taking part in the PACE Spring Session of the Parliamentary Assembly, held in Strasbourg, 20 - 25 April.

The delegation headed by Biljana Pantic Pilja, and includes Aleksandar Mirkovic, Dunja Simonovic Bratic, Elvira Kovacs, Vladimir Djordjevic and Ana Jakovljevic.

On day 1 of the session, the participants discussed the report on the observation of the early elections in Kosovo-Metohija. The report was presented by Yunus Emre, head of the election observation mission in Kosovo-Metohija.

All the members of our delegation spoke on the topic and pointed out the shortcomings of the electoral procedures, the obstruction and attempt to eliminate the Serb list from the electoral process and the favouring of illegitimate lists to the detriment of the Serb list. They also pointed out that it is unacceptable that 13 years later the Community of Serb Municipalities has still not been formed, which is a formal international obligation and that in these circumstances Pristina should not receive membership in the Council of Europe as a reward. The MPs pointed out that the situation is particularly critical due to the poor position of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija, the continuous denial of basic human rights and the huge number of ethnically motivated attacks that have not received a judicial epilogue.

Before the end of the session, the PACE members will consider violence and hate speech against politicians, protection freedom of religion, implementation of the Istanbul Convention, situation in the Middle East and Israel, and will be addressed, among others, by Jean-Noël Barrot, France's Europe and Foreign Affairs Minister, Mihai Popsoi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, and Denis Becirovic, Chairperson of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
