The demolition of the "La Coscia" viaduct, along the Grosseto-Siena route, was successfully completed on the morning of April 15. The operation, carried out by Itinera and Monaco on behalf of Anas, represented a particularly delicate phase within the broader infrastructure upgrading project.
The 167-metre-long viaduct was demolished using a controlled blasting technique involving 89 kg of explosives. The activities were conducted under the highest safety standards, thanks to careful planning and close coordination among all parties involved. To allow the works to proceed, traffic was temporarily halted in both directions, with detours arranged along alternative routes.
The demolition is part of Lot 4 of the works to deliver the new four-lane Grosseto-Siena state road, a strategic project aimed at improving safety and traffic flow along a key artery for the region.
The old viaduct, no longer compliant with current standards, was decommissioned following the commissioning of the new adjacent structure, which has already been opened to traffic in recent weeks. The overall project also includes the construction of additional structures, such as new viaducts and tunnels.
