TAMPA, FL. (June 22, 2026) - The Tampa Police Department is seeking assistance to identify the suspect involved in a shooting that left one man dead.

Just after 10:00 p.m., on June 21, 2026, Tampa Police officers were in the area near W Main St and N Albany Ave dispersing a large crowd gathering, when they heard shots being fired. Officers ran toward the gunfire, immediately locating an adult male in critical condition, and began rendering aid. The victim, 29-year-old Kevondre Thomas (black male, 07/16/1996), was taken to a local hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.

According to witnesses on scene, prior to the shooting, there was a verbal argument between unknown parties that escalated into gunfire. Due to the volume of people, the officers on scene did not witness who shot the victim.

The Tampa Police Department is aware of reports circulating on social media that a Tampa Police Officer was involved in the shooting; however, we can confirm no Tampa Police officers were involved in the shooting, and no officers discharged their firearms during the incident. As friends and family are grieving an unimaginable loss of a loved one, our detectives are working tirelessly to identify and arrest those responsible. We urge the community to look past online rumors and focus on facts that will help us catch the actual shooter and find justice for the family.

Leading up to this shooting, there were dozens of people near the victim, as well as hundreds of others nearby.
