Mount St. Joseph University's Summer Multilingual Learning (SMILE) program was recently featured by Local 12 for its impact on bilingual children and families throughout the Greater Cincinnati community. Hosted by the Mount's Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, the free summer program helps children ages 3-5 strengthen their communication skills in both English and Spanish while celebrating bilingualism as a lifelong strength.
Led by faculty and supported by Master of Speech-Language Pathology (MSLP) students, the SMILE program combines engaging language activities, interactive reading, play, and parent coaching to foster language development both in the classroom and at home. The Local 12 feature highlighted the program's meaningful impact on families while showcasing how Mount students gain valuable clinical experience through community-centered, evidence-based care.
