WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Dan Meuser (R-PA) today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency, an agency within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, has released $600 million in Public Assistance funding to reimburse hospitals and health systems for expenses incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The funding follows Congressman Meuser's sustained efforts to secure funds for hospitals that provided critical care during the public health emergency. Most recently, Congressman Meuser joined several colleagues in sending a letter to DHS urging the Department to expedite the release of these long-overdue funds.
As part of this funding tranche, Geisinger Health System, which serves communities across northeastern and central Pennsylvania, will receive more than $190 million. WellSpan Good Samaritan Hospital will receive approximately $1.8 million, and Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill will receive approximately $1.8 million.
"During the pandemic, Pennsylvania hospitals stepped up to provide lifesaving care to patients and families in our communities under extraordinarily challenging circumstances," said Congressman Meuser. "These reimbursements will help ensure our healthcare providers are made whole for the significant costs they incurred while responding to this unprecedented crisis."
Congressman Meuser has consistently advocated for the release of FEMA Public Assistance funds, emphasizing the importance of reimbursing hospitals for emergency protective measures and preserving access to quality healthcare throughout Pennsylvania.
