MEDIA AVAILABILITY: GDOT Prepares for Weekend Winter Weather


WHAT: Media are invited to cover Georgia DOT winter weather preparations at the Maintenance Activities Unit (MAU) in Forest Park. Georgia DOT crews will be preparing equipment and materials ahead of the expected winter storm this weekend. This is an opportunity to see firsthand the equipment, procedures, and coordination applied by Georgia DOT crews to keep roadways as safe and passable as possible during winter weather. Media are invited to capture b-roll of these activities and conduct interviews with Georgia DOT spokespeople.

Friday, January 30, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. (Please note, media crews must be escorted into the facility and will not be allowed inside the gates of the facility outside of these hours)

DETAILS:
  • Crews will be actively preparing equipment and materials in preparation for the expected snow event. Media will have the opportunity to capture b-roll of crews preparing materials and equipment for treating and plowing the roads.
  • Georgia DOT has replenished nearly two million gallons of brine statewide and is ready with approximately 570 snow removal units statewide, including plows, spreaders, and heavy-duty pickups.
  • Safety reminder: Please wear appropriate footwear and stay clear of active operations during coverage.
  • Media will only be allowed inside the gates of the MAU during this media availability.
