BURLINGTON, Wisconsin - TDS Telecommunications LLC (TDS®) has begun construction on an all-fiber internet network in Burlington, a project that will bring lightning-fast speeds and a new choice for TV, phone, and mobile services.
When completed, more than 5,400 Burlington homes and businesses are expected to have access to TDS' network, which features speeds up to 8 Gigabit and up to 10 Gigabit dedicated fiber connections for businesses.
"The City of Burlington is excited to partner with TDS to provide another high-speed internet service to our community," Burlington City Administrator Carina Walters said.
The Burlington project is part of Wisconsin-based TDS' expansion in the region. Construction on high-speed networks is also anticipated to start later this spring in communities including Camp Lake, Como, Delavan, Genoa City, Lake Geneva, Pell Lake, Walworth, and Williams Bay.
"We're excited to make a multi-million-dollar investment to bring better connections to more communities in our home state. TDS' all-fiber network represents a major upgrade in the community's infrastructure and will position the community for growth and enhanced quality of life for years to come," said Drew Petersen, TDS Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs.
With speeds up to 8 Gigabit, a file of any size can be uploaded or downloaded nearly instantly. TDS fiber service is ideal for not only streaming and remote work or school, but also for commercial customers and households with large, shared internet needs. Beyond the standard service options, TDS offers a low-cost service for qualifying customers called TDS Connect that includes speeds up to 200 Mbps.
Construction of the network will be done in phases, with customers able to connect once work in their neighborhood is completed. Residents will be notified of construction in several ways, including signage and by postcard, letter, and door hanger. Contractors will work to minimize disruptions and restore any areas impacted by the burying of fiber.
