Improvements at the Central Avenue railroad crossing in Casey begin July 6

EFFINGHAM - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that Central Avenue (Illinois 49) in Casey will close for improvements and repairs at the railroad crossing between Albany Avenue and Adams Avenue on Monday, July 6. The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of the week.

The closure is necessary to allow CSXT Railroad to repair and improve its crossing. A detour utilizing U.S. 40, Illinois 33, Illinois 130 and Illinois 49 will be in place. ​

It will be necessary for motorists to find an alternate route. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
