City launches Alley Maintenance Program

YUMA, Ariz. - The City of Yuma Public Works Department will launch a new Alley Maintenance Program starting July to improve the safety, cleanliness, and appearance of alleys throughout the community.

The ongoing program will establish scheduled maintenance routes for alleys across the city, allowing crews to proactively address maintenance needs while helping keep alleys clear and accessible.

"The Alley Maintenance Program is a proactive approach to an ongoing need," Public Works Manager Jose Garcia said. "By providing routine maintenance, we can improve safety, support emergency response and enhance the appearance of our neighborhoods.

Crews will move through neighborhoods according to the program schedule, meaning residents do not need to submit requests for routine alley maintenance. Before work begins in an area, Public Works will distribute flyers to residents in the immediate neighborhood with additional information about the scheduled maintenance.

The program will also help identify locations where illegal dumping occurs. Residents who witness illegal dumping in progress are encouraged to contact the Yuma Police Department's non-emergency line at 928-783-4421 and provide available details, such as a description of the person or vehicle involved. Illegally dumped materials discovered afterward may be reported through Yuma Click & Fix.

What residents may see:

• Public Works maintenance crews, vehicles and equipment in neighborhood alleys.
• Removal of overgrown vegetation.
• Trimming of overgrown trees, excluding citrus trees.
• Investigation and cleanup of illegally dumped materials.

After maintenance is completed, residents and property owners can help support the program by keeping areas adjacent to their property clean and free of debris.

How residents can help:

• Keep trees and vegetation from extending into the alley.
• Avoid placing unwanted items, debris or other materials in alleys.
• Promptly report illegal dumping.
