ITD to remove railroad bridge over US-95 in Culdesac Canyon next week

CULDESAC - The Idaho Transportation Department is partnering with BG&CM Railroad to remove the Lapwai Creek Bridge over U.S. Highway 95 near milepost 283 in Culdesac Canyon.

Work is anticipated to start Sept. 9 and is expected to continue for approximately 15 days. During daytime work, travelers should expect single-lane traffic controlled by flaggers and 15-minute delays through the project area.

ITD plans to close US-95 overnight for the bridge removal on Sept. 14-16, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. During the closures, traffic will be directed to a signed detour using Gifford-Reubens Road to U.S. Highway 12. View the detour map to plan your route around the closure.

This project eliminates a 14-foot-11-inch vertical clearance restriction along Idaho's primary north-south highway. Removing the bridge will support freight movement along US-95 between Oregon and Canada and accommodate future improvements to the highway through Culdesac Canyon.

Construction schedules are subject to change. Travelers should plan ahead and check 511.idaho.gov for current highway conditions or visit the project webpage for more information.
