Expertise France and the Jordan Armed Forces signed a Memorandum of Understanding under SECFRON III, a European Union-funded project supporting border security capacities in Jordan.
This signature marks an important step in advancing this new 10-million Euro-initiative. SECFRON III will strengthen the Jordan Armed Forces' operational, logistical, and support capacities along Jordan's northern and eastern borders.
H.E Pierre Christophe Chatzisavas, Ambassador of the European Union to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan declared: "Over the past few years, EU support to border security in Jordan has been increasing in both quantitative and qualitative terms, reflecting our commitment to enhancing Jordan's security. Today's agreement marks a concrete contribution to Jordan's efforts to counter illicit trafficking, smuggling, and other cross-border threats, while also facilitating the safe and efficient movement of people and goods".
"Expertise France is proud to support the Jordan Armed Forces in the third phase of the SECFRON project, and to have contributed to bringing together a wide range of partners across its different phases. The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding reaffirms nearly a decade of trusted cooperation in support of border management capacities in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan," Lilly Formaleoni - Jordan Lebanon Country Director.
Following the signature of the MoU, the project will now move forward with its first implementation activities on the ground by the month of May, which includes the provision of much needed medical equipment for Al Karama field hospital, followed by the construction of accommodation facilities, operational rooms and other infrastructures as well as the delivery of equipment.
