Student demand for summer classes at Boise State University remains strong. In 2026, more than 10,000 students enrolled in Summer Sessions, generating 59,716 enrolled credit hours.
So, what makes Boise State's Summer Sessions an appealing option for students?
Summer Sessions give students more flexibility to make progress toward their degrees instead of limiting their coursework to the traditional fall and spring semesters. Students can use summer to complete required courses or work toward a certificate or minor. Summer is also a wonderful time to do experiential learning experiences like an internship or working with faculty on research projects.
With condensed courses and multiple session lengths and start dates, students can focus on one or two classes at a time while balancing work, family and other commitments. They also have access to many of the same support resources available during fall and spring semesters, including the Writing Center and personalized tutoring.
"We offer a robust summer program with a lot of options to help students progress to their degree," said Director of Summer Sessions Regina Jenkins.
"Our summer student success rates are high, even when you factor in that the students are taking courses in a condensed session," Jenkins added. "When we look at the data of Boise State's first-time full-time cohort, students who enroll in summer classes are more than two times likely to graduate in four years. That speaks volumes to the support our students have."
Summer courses continue to play an important role in helping Boise State students make progress toward their goals. This year, 7,270 undergraduate degree-seeking students enrolled in Summer Sessions, a 3.4% increase from the previous year.
Growth also extended across Boise State's undergraduate resident and nonresident student populations. Resident summer enrollment reached 4,001 students, up 5.7% year over year, while nonresident enrollment reached 3,269 students, a 0.7% increase.
Whether students want to get ahead, catch up or create more room in a future semester, Summer Sessions offer another way to keep moving toward graduation.
