Update on east-central Georgia road conditions

Augusta, Ga. - State routes in District 2 (east-central Georgia) dried well on Monday. Most state routes in the district are dry. However, a few locations that didn't receive much sunlight are still wet. Georgia Department of Transportation crews applied salt to these locations on Monday to reduce the probabilities of refreezing.

As temperatures are forecast to fall below freezing overnight across the entire District 2 area, black ice is a possibility in any location that isn't completely dry. Drivers are advised to use caution overnight. If the road surface looks wet, assume it's icy and proceed accordingly.

All state routes in the district are passable. Georgia DOT maintenance crews are switching to on-call status overnight. Should any issues arise, crews will be prepared to respond.

We thank the public for limiting travel and giving Georgia DOT crews space to treat routes.
