On 15 May 2026, the European Union (EU) and the Republic of Korea held their second Security and Defence Dialogue in Seoul.
During the Dialogue, the EU and the Republic of Korea agreed to enhance their cooperation on several areas of common interest, notably Maritime Security, Cyber Security, Crisis Management, Space Security, Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference, Non-Proliferation and Disarmament as well as Women, Peace and Security. They also committed to increase alignment on many of these areas in multilateral fora and to safeguard the rules-based international order. Both sides also exchanged on respective defence initiatives and defence industry policies. During the Dialogue, the two sides also shared assessments of the current regional and international security environment. The Dialogue was co-chaired by Ms. Benedikta von Seherr-Thoss, Managing Director for Peace, Security and Defence of the European External Action Service (EEAS), and Mr Wieyoung Ha, Director General for International Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mr Kwangsuk Lee, Director General for International Policy, Ministry of National Defense.
