REPAIR Act to Be Examined at House Energy, Commerce Subcommittee Hearing; Auto Care CEO Bill Hanvey to Testify

BETHESDA, Md. - January 12, 2026 - The Auto Care Association today announced that President and CEO Bill Hanvey will provide testimony before the United States House Energy and Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade during a legislative hearing titled "Examining Legislative Options to Strengthen Motor Vehicle Safety, Ensure Consumer Choice and Affordability, and Cement U.S. Automotive Leadership." The hearing is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2026, in Room 2175 of the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington, D.C. and will be livestreamed on the Committee's website.

This high-profile hearing will review legislative proposals covering a wide range of automotive policy issues, including vehicle safety standards, advanced driver technologies, data access, and consumer repair rights. Among the bills on the agenda is the Right to Equitable and Professional Auto Industry Repair (REPAIR) Act (H.R. 1566)-legislation supported by the Auto Care Association that would preserve and protect consumers' ability to choose where and how their vehicles are repaired.

The hearing will feature discussion of sixteen automotive-related bills that impact both consumers and businesses working across the auto care and aftermarket sectors. These proposals aim to strengthen motor vehicle safety, expand consumer choice, promote affordability, and support U.S. automotive leadership in a rapidly evolving technology landscape.

The Auto Care Association encourages its members to tune into the livestream and to continue engaging with their elected officials on legislation that affects the independent aftermarket and the millions of consumers and small businesses it serves.
