Olympia Home Listings to Include Energy Scores Starting Spring 2027

Beginning in Spring 2027, Olympia homebuyers will find a new piece of information included in most home listings: a Home Energy Score (HES).

The Home Energy Score (HES) is a nationally standardized energy-efficiency rating tool used to evaluate a home's energy performance. Similar to a vehicle miles-per-gallon rating, HES provides a simple metric to compare the energy efficiency of multiple homes. HES assessments are completed by certified providers who evaluate a home's structure, insulation, heating and cooling systems, and other energy-related features to produce a Home Energy Score and Report. The report also includes cost-effective recommendations to improve energy efficiency, lower energy bills, and increase your score. By encouraging these upgrades, the HES program will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and advance the City's climate goals.

Effective May 1, 2027, most homes sold within Olympia city limits will be required to obtain and disclose a Home Energy Score before being listed for sale. The requirement applies to single-family homes, townhomes, duplexes, row houses, and condominiums. Mobile homes, manufactured homes, floating homes, and stacked multi-family units are currently exempt.

The City is working with regional partners to prepare for the program's launch and will share additional information as it becomes available. To stay informed, subscribe to Climate Action updates at olympiawa.gov/subscribe.

Save on an E-Bike with a WE-Bike Rebate

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has relaunched it's WE-bike rebate program, making e-bikes and cycling accessories more affordable for people in Washington State. Last year, the WE-Bike helped nearly 3,000 Washingtonians purchase e-bikes and related safety accessories.

People living in Washington ages 16 and up can apply for rebates of $300 or $1,200 towards qualifying models of e-bikes, depending on household income. Applications are open now through March 29, 2027, and applicants will be randomly selected on the second Monday of each month. Applicants only need to submit one application to be considered for the monthly selections.

Visit the WE-bike Program website to apply, and learn more.
