Senator Marshall Honors Gold Star Children’s Day
Washington - U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. (R-Kansas), joined Senator Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi) and Senator Mark Kelly (D-Arizona) in a bipartisan resolution to designate August 1, 2026, as Gold Star Children's Day to recognize the children of fallen service members.
"When a servicemember makes the ultimate sacrifice, that sacrifice is never theirs alone. It is carried by their spouse, their parents, their brothers and sisters, and especially the children who grow up without a mom or dad because they gave everything for our nation," said Senator Marshall. "Gold Star children live every day with the cost of freedom, and their families have paid a price few of us can truly understand. On Gold Star Children's Day, we honor these remarkable children, remember the heroes they lost, and reaffirm that as Americans, we owe them and their families a debt of gratitude that can never fully be repaid."
The Gold Star Children's Day resolution highlights the more than 625,000 Americans who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the 20th and 21st centuries, leaving nearly 15,000 children without a parent. Kansas is home to troops at Fort Leavenworth, Fort Riley, McConnell Air Force Base, and National Guard units across the state.
