Consumers First Submits Comments On the 2027 Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) Proposed Rule

Families USA, on behalf of 35 organizational members and allies of the Consumers First coalition, provided comments on the Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) for the calendar year 2027 proposed rule.

This letter includes recommendations across several key areas, such as to:

  • Take additional action to strengthen federal price transparency regulations to ensure consumers and health care purchasers have access to upfront hospital prices in dollars and cents.
  • Extend site neutral payments to imaging without contrast services at certain off-campus provider-based departments - an important provision that reins in overcharging by corporate hospital systems and ultimately helps lower costs for patients and families.
