Strickland Rejects Defense Bill Laced with Voter Suppression

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) released the following statement on her vote against H.R. 8800 National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2027 (NDAA), off the House floor:

"Speaker Johnson and extreme, right-wing House Republicans have hijacked the NDAA process - again.

While this bill includes bipartisan provisions that would benefit our servicemembers and strengthen our national defense, I will not support a bill that makes it harder for U.S. citizens to exercise their constitutionally protected right to vote."

Congresswoman Marilyn Strickland (WA-10) serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. She is Whip of the New Democrat Coalition, Secretary of the Congressional Black Caucus, and is one of the first Korean-American women elected to Congress.
