Jonathan McElroy, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Music and Theatre Arts, published an article, "Arts-based Research (ABR) and Pedagogy: How a Research Framework Can Support Teaching Practices of (Music) Educators," in the International Journal of Education & the Arts (Vol. 26, No. 30, 2025).
The article examines how tenets of the Arts-based Research (ABR) framework share similarities with a praxial music education, thereby, supporting (music) educators' teaching practices. In the study, McElroy presents vignettes to illustrate the theory into practice for in-service teachers ranging from novice to established.
The goal of the research was to examine how educators with a range of experience can use these similarities to further develop their craft and aid their continual growth and development.
The International Journal of Education & the Arts currently serves as an open access platform for scholarly dialogue. The journal primarily publishes peer reviewed research-based field studies including, among others, aesthetics, art theory, music education, visual arts education, media education, drama education, dance education, education in literature, and narrative and holistic integrated studies that cross or transcend these fields.
