Van Orden Statement on Concordia University Wisconsin Recognizing TPUSA Chapter
MEQUON, WI - Today, Congressman Derrick Van Orden (WI-03) today issued the following statement regarding Concordia University Wisconsin's decision to grant official recognitionto Jacob Turner's Turning Point USA (TPUSA) chapter after two years of administrative resistance:
"I want to thank Concordia University Wisconsin President Dr. Erik P. Ankerberg for doing the right thing in recognizing Jacob Turner's TPUSA chapter. Concordia's decision reinforces our nation's principle that we should be able to engage in civic and political activities freely.
"This chapter will carry on the work of leaders like Charlie Kirk, promoting free speech and civic engagement among students. I look forward to seeing the positive impact this chapter will have on campus."
Turner plans to use the newly recognized chapter to promote voter registration and civic engagement on campus.
Rep. Van Orden is also reviewing similar cases at universities nationwide to ensure students' rights to free expression are protected.
