Students in the Children's and Young Adult Literature class (ENGLIT 320) invite the Boise State community to help them give books to children in need this fall. A book drive runs Oct. 8-12 on campus and a PonyUp campaign for cash donations will launch during the book drive.
Drop-off bins and cans for gently-used children's books will be available in three locations this week:
Bins are labeled Book It Forward Idaho - a nonprofit partner that helps with book drives.
Books in Every Home is a Boise State service learning project that has placed thousands of new books in the hands and homes of children across the Boise area for the past eight years. The project was founded in an English Literature capstone class in 2017, opened to all Boise State students as a Vertically Integrated Project, and currently runs every other fall in the Children's and Young Adult Literature class (ENGLIT 320) when the course is taught by Professor Tara Penry.
In November, Boise State students will visit Boise-area elementary classrooms to give away books donated or purchased during this October campaign.
Picture books are especially in need during this drive, but all children's books are welcome. Stop by the table on the Quad from 12:30-2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10 to learn more about the Books in Every Home project or to donate.
