Male Poses as 'ServPro' Employee in Fire Affected Neighborhood

On August 26th, 2026 Spokane police officers responded to a call in the neighborhood near N. Nine Mile Rd and N. Royal Dr. A homeowner called to report a suspicious male had come to their door and attempted to open it.
When officers contacted the homeowner, they learned through statements and video footage the suspicious male had arrived in an older maroon pickup truck and was wearing a "ServPro' vest. It appeared the male tried the doorknob prior to ringing the doorbell on the Ring camera. The male lingered in the area for 20 to 30 minutes and possibly photographed the home prior to leaving.
The homeowner stated he wasn't expecting anyone and confirmed with ServPro in Spokane and Coeur d'Alene the suspicious male is not currently employed by them.
The Spokane Police Department wants the public to be aware of this incident as there are concerns of individuals willing to take advantage of those in our community affected by the fires. If you observe suspicious activity, please contact Crime Check at 509-456-2233 and report it.
