Congressman García Votes Against $70 Billion for ICE and CBP

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Congressman Jesús "Chuy" García (IL-04) issued the following statement on his vote against the Republican's $70 billion slush fund for ICE and CBP:

"For over a year and a half, the Trump Administration has engaged in a violent and lawless attack on our communities in the name of immigration enforcement. They have detained immigrants and even some U.S. citizens in unsanitary and inhumane conditions. Today Republicans brought to the floor a bill to give ICE and CBP another $70 billion, without any reforms or guardrails. This is in addition to the $140 billion these rogue agencies received last year in the Big Ugly Bill.

"As Republicans give tens of billions more taxpayer dollars to DHS, working families are still struggling to make ends meet. Instead, the government should be investing in healthcare, food for hungry children, childcare and job opportunities. We should be helping working people to afford rent, groceries and medications. This bill does nothing to lower the cost of living or make our country better in any way. I will continue to oppose more funding for ICE or CBP, and keep fighting until we finally rein in DHS."
