The Linn County Courthouse has been a landmark of justice and service in Linn County since 1925. Constructed on May's Island in downtown Cedar Rapids, the courthouse marked the move of county government from Marion that same year. While the courthouse building once housed the Sheriff's Office and additional County offices, today it remains home to the courts and the County Attorney's Office. Over the past century, the courthouse has undergone several remodels to maintain its historic presence and functionality, including significant restoration following the 2008 floods. The Linn County Courthouse is part of the May's Island Historic District, which was listed on the National Register of Historic places in 1978.
