Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced today that a Pawtucket man has been sentenced in Providence County Superior Court to serve 11 years at the Adult Corrections Institutions (ACI) for multiple counts of child molestation.
On September 29, 2025, Superior Court Justice Joseph A. Montalbano sentenced Edwin Martinez (age 29) to 30 years with 11 years to serve at the ACI and 30 years of probation. Judge Montalbano also ordered the defendant have no contact with the victims, register as a sex offender, attend sex offender counseling, and be subject to community supervision upon release. On June 26, 2025, following the conclusion of a six-day trial, a jury found the defendant guilty of three counts of first-degree child molestation and three counts of second-degree child molestation.
"When we foster safe environments for victims to come forward and tell their stories, justice is much more likely to prevail," said Attorney General Neronha. "It goes without saying that cases like these are extraordinarily difficult for victims and their families, and every time we are able to hold a perpetrator accountable, we are making our communities that much safer. I am grateful to the victims, the jury, and the Pawtucket Police Department for their hard work on this difficult case."
During the trial, the State proved beyond a reasonable doubt that between 2010 and 2012, the defendant sexually assaulted a juvenile female victim, known to him, on multiple occasions. The State also proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant sexually assaulted a juvenile male victim, also known to him. All assaults occurred at homes in Pawtucket.
"I thank our detectives and our partners at the Attorney General's Office for their tireless effort in this investigation and prosecution," said Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves. "Justice was served here, and I am grateful for the victims' courage throughout this process."
Assistant Attorney General Shannon Signore and Special Assistant Attorney General Danielle Beauvais of the Attorney General's Office and Sergeant Trevor Lefebvre of the Pawtucket Police Department led the investigation and prosecution of the case.
