USDA Announces New Presidential Appointee to Serve Rural New Jersey

RickStern has been appointed by President Donald Trump to serve as the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development's New Jersey State Director. Stern will implement President Trump's America First agenda at USDA Rural Development, ensuring the needs of America's farmers, ranchers, and producers remain a top priority.

"I look forward to hard work and innovation to help take New Jersey agribusinesses to the next level through strengthening farms, growing local businesses and keeping our rural communities thriving," said Stern.

Stern is a third-generation farmer from Cream Ridge, New Jersey, dedicated to growing corn, soybeans, wheat and hay for both commercial and retail markets. He holds a Bachelor of Science in agronomy and environmental sciences from Delaware Valley University. Stern brings a wealth of practical experience and leadership to agriculture through his services on the Farm Service Agency committee, his role as an executive member of the United Soybean Board, and his tenure as chair of the New Jersey Soybean Board. A committed family man, Stern is the proud father of two daughters and a son. Outside of farming he enjoys hunting and off-road excursions, reflecting his love for the outdoors and adventure.

State directors serve as the chief executive officer for Rural Development in the states and territories and are tasked with leading teams to carry out the mission to the benefit of all rural Americans. In conjunction with the guidance and support of the national office, state directors are responsible for advancing the key priorities and initiatives of the presidential administration, the secretary of agriculture and the deputy undersecretary for Rural Development. State directors also provide key leadership to foster a mission-driven, accountable, and high-performing workforce focused on operational excellence, public trust, and responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources.
