Statement: Statement on Social Media Comment

The University of Chicago is deeply committed to the values of academic freedom and the free expression of ideas. For this reason, it does not limit the comments of faculty members, who speak for themselves, not the University. The University's commitment to free expression requires a campus climate that fosters a wide range of perspectives and protects against discrimination and harassment. The University has received a complaint alleging that a faculty member's comment on social media may have created a hostile educational environment. As in any case when there is an allegation of a hostile educational environment, the University is following its established protocol to investigate this claim.
