Sacramento And Yolo County - Caltrans is notifying motorists of overnight full closures and an extended weekend full closure for westbound U.S. Highway 50 (US 50) from the north- and southbound Interstate 5 (I-5) interchange connector ramps in Sacramento County to westbound US 50 in Yolo County and associated on- and off-ramps in West Sacramento. Motorists should plan for additional travel time and expect delays.

Overnight closures over five days for westbound US 50 begin Sunday, October 26 to Friday, October 31 nightly from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. from the I-5 and US 50 interchange to west of Jefferson Boulevard. Motorists are urged to avoid this area and use the signed detour to the I-5 and I-80 interchange as an alternate route.

Ramps and Connectors Closed: The five-day nighttime closures are followed by a 55-hour closure scheduled from 10 p.m. Friday, October 31 through 4 a.m. Monday November 4, allowing Caltrans' contractors to complete demolition and pavement work as part of the ongoing $280 million I-80 and US 50 Pavement Rehabilitation Project. The same detour route will be used.

  • Take SB I-5 to WB I-80 connector ramp and continue on WB I-80

Suggested Detour from NB I-5:

  • Continue NB on I-5
  • Take NB I-5 to the WB I-80 connector ramp
  • Continue on WB I-80

Suggested Detour from WB US 50:

  • Take WB US 50 to the NB I-5 Connector Ramp
  • Take NB I-5 to the WB I-80 Connector Ramp
  • Take SB I-5 to the WB I-80 Connector Ramp

This project includes $47 million from Senate Bill (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017. SB 1 provides $5 billion in transportation funding annually, shared equally between state and local agencies.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to "Be Work Zone Alert" and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.
