San José, Calif. - San José State University (SJSU) is strengthening its deep ties to Silicon Valley through a new partnership with Teradyne, Inc., a leading provider of automated test equipment and advanced robotics, launching a two-year initiative designed to expand hands-on education in memory test engineering, preparing students for the demands of the increasingly complex semiconductor industry.
Through this collaboration, SJSU's Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering will benefit from financial support, industry expertise, and access to advanced test equipment from Teradyne , helping students develop in-demand technical skills and gain real-world experience that aligns with the evolving needs of the engineering sector
A cornerstone of the initiative is the creation of a new Electrical Engineering elective in memory test engineering, developed by Teradyne Engineers, who will serve as guest lecturers, in collaboration with SJSU Electrical Engineering faculty. The course strengthens the semiconductor industry by equipping students with in-demand, hands-on skills using industry-standard tools and real-world testing challenges-an approach alumni will recognize as a hallmark of SJSU's blend of academic rigor and industry-driven learning.
Developed with Teradyne engineers, the course prepares graduates to enter the workforce ready to support innovation and reliability in an increasingly complex semiconductor landscape.
"This partnership with Teradyne exemplifies the kind of industry collaboration that defines San José State University and our deep connection to Silicon Valley," said Sheryl Ehrman, dean of the College of Engineering . By combining Teradyne's technical leadership with SJSU's hands-on, practice-driven education, we are giving our students direct access to cutting-edge tools, real-world expertise, and career-relevant experience in memory test engineering.
"At Teradyne, we are deeply committed to fostering the next generation of engineers who will drive innovation in memory test technology," said Ben Han, president of the memory test division at Teradyne. "Partnering with San José State University, a leading public institution at the heart of Silicon Valley, allows us to share our expertise and resources with talented students who will soon shape the future of our industry. We're excited to support SJSU in providing real-world learning experiences that empower students to thrive in this rapidly changing technological landscape.
In addition, the partnership will provide support for student capstone projects, engineering student organizations, major campus conferences, and career development opportunities through the SJSU Career Center, ensuring students are prepared to thrive in Silicon Valley and beyond.
"This collaboration with Teradyne creates an exceptional learning opportunity for our electrical engineering students. By co-developing a new elective in memory test engineering and engaging Teradyne engineers as guest lecturers, we are bringing real-world semiconductor challenges directly into the classroom. This partnership ensures our students graduate with the practical skills, industry insight, and hands-on experience needed to succeed in an increasingly complex and fast-moving engineering landscape," said David Parent, professor and department chair, Electrical Engineering, College of Engineering.
