City kicks off 2026 2C paving season with major citywide road improvements

The City of Colorado Springs announced the start of the 2026 paving season for the voter-approved 2C Road Improvements Program, launching a new year of work to improve road conditions across the city.

This year's paving season includes approximately 125 lane miles of roadway improvements across 109 road segments, with work occurring on major corridors and in neighborhoods citywide. The work is part of the recently renewed 10-year 2C program, representing an $820 million investment in local infrastructure, the largest road repaving effort in Colorado Springs history.

Since voters first approved 2C, the City has repaved nearly 1,900 lane miles, added or upgraded more than 12,000 ADA-compliant curb ramps, and significantly improved overall road conditions. The program has also contributed to a more than 33% reduction in pothole complaints, demonstrating measurable improvements residents experience daily.

"Taking care of our infrastructure is one of the clearest priorities we hear from residents," said Mayor Yemi Mobolade. "The 2C program reflects the community's trust and our responsibility to deliver safer, more reliable roads that support quality of life across Colorado Springs."

The 2026 paving program includes high-visibility projects such as multiple segments of Circle Drive, as well as improvements along Union Boulevard, Palmer Park Boulevard, and Chelton Road. In addition, crews will complete paving work in neighborhoods across the city, including areas such as Costilla Street, North 25th Street, and Pioneer Lane. A full list of scheduled projects is available at ColoradoSprings.gov/2C.

City officials emphasize that the 2C program focuses on long-term solutions, addressing aging roads before they fail and reducing the need for costly repairs in the future.

"This program allows us to be proactive instead of reactive," said Corey Farkas, Operations and Maintenance Division Manager. "We're prioritizing the roads in the worst condition first, improving safety, extending pavement life, and saving taxpayers an estimated $21 million annually through preventive maintenance."

Crews will be active throughout the city during the paving season. Residents may experience temporary traffic impacts, including lane closures and delays in work zones. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, follow posted signage, and use alternate routes when possible.

While pothole repairs will continue as needed, City officials note that full resurfacing and reconstruction through the 2C program provides a more lasting solution. Residents can report potholes or road concerns through the GoCOS! app, the AskCOS chatbot at ColoradoSprings.gov, or by calling 719-385-ROAD.
