In recognition of Older Americans Month, the City of West Hollywood will celebrate "Older Adults Month" with a series of free community events throughout the month of May.
Older Adults Month is a time dedicated to recognizing and honoring the invaluable contributions of older adults - past and present - who have helped shape our communities.
The Los Angeles LGBT Center Seniors Program, in collaboration with the Center's Trans* Lounge Program, will host a gallery reception for the Through Our Eyes Senior Art Exhibition on Thursday, April 30, 2026at 5 p.m., at the Los Angeles LGBT Center's Advocate & Gochis Galleries located at 1125 N. McCadden Place in Hollywood. This event is open to registered participants of the Los Angeles LGBT Center and Jewish Family Service LA. The City will host the 21stAnnual Older Adults Service Awards during a special televised meeting of the Older Adults Advisory Boardon Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 2 p.m. in the City's Council Chambers/Public Meeting Room located at 625 N. San Vicente Boulevard. Community members are welcome to attend in person; no RSVP is required.
The Older Adults Service Awards and Older Adults Advisory Board meeting will be broadcast live on WeHoTV on Spectrum Cable Channel 10 in West Hollywood and will be livestreamed on the City's WeHoTV YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/wehotv and on the City's website at www.weho.org/wehotv. The meeting will also be available on AppleTV, Amazon FireTV, AndroidTV, and Roku platforms by searching for "WeHoTV."
In partnership with Cedars-Sinai, the City will host the Older Adult Community Health Fair and Art Showcase on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Plummer Park Community Center, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard. The Health Fair will include free health screenings (blood glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol), vaccinations, and information tables from local organizations. A complimentary lunch will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. The Health Fair will also host an Arts Showcase, featuring artwork created by West Hollywood older adults.
Public transportation is encouraged. As an ADA-accessible transit opportunity, Cityline will continue its regular service. For more information and a route map, visit www.weho.org/cityline. Maps are also available on Cityline shuttles and at West Hollywood City Hall, located at 8300 Santa Monica Boulevard. Attendees can also take advantage of the Dial-A-Ride and On-Call Transportation programs for older adults and people living with disabilities. Limited free parking is available at the Plummer Park South (7377 Santa Monica Boulevard) and North (Fountain Avenue/N. Vista Street) lots. Metered street parking is also available nearby.
Be Well WeHo's Healing the Inner Child class will take place virtually on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. via the Zoom platform. This session centers on reconnecting with and nurturing the inner child. Through mindfulness and reflective practices, attendees will identify emotional triggers, explore gentle reparenting techniques, and engage in guided journaling to support personal healing. On Friday, May 15, 2026, beginning at 2 p.m., Jewish Family Service LA and the Los Angeles LGBT Center will co-host the National Honor Your LGBT Elders Day Celebration at Plummer Park, located at 7377 Santa Monica Boulevard. On May 17, 2026, the City's Russian Speaking Advisory Board will host the 25th Anniversary of the Annual WeHo Mishka Festival at Plummer Park from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The festival celebrates the rich traditions, creativity, and lasting contributions of the Russian-speaking community through art, history, language, and performance. Be Well WeHo's Avoiding Unexpected App and Data Charges class will take place on May 26, 2026, from 12 p.m. - 1p.m. in the West Hollywood Library Community Room, located at 8750 El Tovar Place. Participants will learn how to understand cell phone plan data limits, avoid incidental charges such as third-party fees and in-app purchases, and safely choose and download apps from reputable sources like Apple Store or Google Play.
