SAN DIEGO, CA. - Today, Assemblymember Tasha Boerner (D-Encinitas) published a video with students from La Costa Heights Elementary School advocating for Assembly Bill (AB) 2241. AB 2241 by Assemblymember Tasha Boerner would ensure newly built or renovated playgrounds at public schools are made with inclusive features for students of all abilities.

"Play is a right for every child, and for children living with disabilities, physical activity through play is so important. It is essential for kids to grow and develop in a safe environment, but current standards for playgrounds can make it difficult for students with different abilities," stated Assemblymember Boerner. "I want to thank the students of La Costa Heights for being civically engaged and advocating for their peers, and I especially want to thank their teachers for teaching their students empathy and leading by example."

Last year, 5th grade students from La Costa Heights Elementary School traveled to Sacramento to advocate for inclusive playgrounds. This year, Assemblymember Boerner is working to make AB 2241 the law. AB 2241 is currently in the Assembly Committee on Appropriations. On Thursday, May 14th, the public will learn whether the bill will advance this legislative session.
