GLOUCESTER, VA - Congressman Rob Wittman (VA-01) was joined by the House Committee on Natural Resources and Congresswoman Jen Kiggans (VA-02) on a field visit to the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS). The purpose of the trip was to provide members of the House Natural Resources Committee with the opportunity to learn about the cutting-edge research and community impact that takes place daily at VIMS.
"It was a pleasure to see firsthand the work that VIMS is doing to advance scientific research that addresses challenges to coastal and marine environments," said Rep. Wittman. "VIMS is an environmental leader and economic driver in the First District, and I have consistently advocated for funding and resources that supports its research and the training it offers for the next generation of leaders in marine science through William & Mary's Batten School of Coastal & Marine Sciences."
"I applaud Vice Chairman Wittman for inviting members to his district to see how Virginia plays a large role in our nation's coastal and ocean policy. The Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences is a leader in marine science research, generating positive economic benefits for the region and the country. Visits like these are essential to informing our Committee's work in Washington, and I thank Mr. Wittman for hosting this insightful field tour." - Chairman Bruce Westerman
