Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) Evaluates Flood Impact at Abhimansala-3 in Pangolla

Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), visited the Abhimansala-3 Rehabilitation Centre in Pangolla recently (14 December) to assess the impact of recent devastating floods. During his visit, the Deputy Minister inspected the facility's infrastructure and spoke with the staff members to assess the damages caused by the adverse weather, which has severely affected the delivery of vital services for the resident war heroes of the centre.

As a dedicated facility established by the Sri Lanka Army, Abhimansala centres provide lifelong care, including medical consultations, physiotherapy, and mental health counseling for soldiers injured in the line of duty. Major General Jayasekara emphasized that despite the disaster, the government remains committed to ensuring these veterans receive the specialized attention, dignity, and respect they deserve in a safe environment.

During a detailed review of the flood damage, the Deputy Minister provided direct guidance to officials to address infrastructure issues and service disruptions promptly. He held discussions with the management to evaluate ongoing relief and recovery efforts, focusing on restoring the facility to its full operational capacity to minimize any impact on the residents' rehabilitation progress.

The visit concluded with the Deputy Minister reaffirming the Ministry's dedication to maintaining the highest standards of care for the nation's war heroes. He assured staff and residents that all necessary steps are being taken to strengthen the centre's resilience against future weather-related challenges while ensuring that the "sanctuary of healing" continues its essential mission.
