On 14 August 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, in Moscow.
Both sides discussed ways to further promote Thailand - Russia relations and multi-dimensional cooperation, including political cooperation, security, trade and investment, agriculture, tourism, and culture. The Thai side pursued trade facilitation and reduction of trade impediments, and sought support to expedite the process towards the commencement of negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement between Thailand and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
Both sides also exchanged views on key international and regional developments, particularly the geopolitical landscape, ASEAN - Russia cooperation and other regional cooperation frameworks, as well as the situation in Myanmar, and the Thailand - Cambodia situation.
On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation co-signed the 6th Plan of Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (2026 - 2030), establishing a framework for consultations and cooperation between the Foreign Ministries of both countries. Thailand and Russia will celebrate the 130th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year.
