Governor Polis Visits Colorado Springs Classroom, Highlights State’s #1 Ranking for Education and Encourages Students to Participate in Governor For A Day Competition

COLORADO SPRINGS - Today, Governor Polis was in Colorado Springs and kicked off the new school year with a visit to North Middle School, where he met with teachers and joined a classroom of students. While meeting with the seventh and eighth graders, the governor invited the students to enter the "Governor For a Day" contest, a unique opportunity for students to get a first hand look at state government and give kids a reason to get excited about civics.

"There's nothing like the energy of a new school year, and spending it with North Middle School's students was the perfect way to kick things off. Colorado is ranked the best state for education because of classrooms like this one, curious students and teachers who show up for them every day. That's why I am so excited to give Colorado seventh and eight graders the unique opportunity to become Governor for a day. This competition will get students excited about civics, help kids learn about state government, and who knows, Colorado's next Governor is from right here at North Middle School," said Governor Polis.

The Governor For a Day contest opened on August 31 and closes on September 7. To enter the contest, seventh and eighth grade students must fill out the form and submit a video between 30 seconds to two minutes long explaining why they want to be the governor of Colorado for a day.
