Agricultural Hall of Fame Inductee Announced

Marion County proudly announces the induction of Frank Markham into the Marion County Agricultural Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony and banquet will be held on Thursday, Nov. 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Southeastern Livestock Pavilion Auditorium as part of Marion County's local celebration of National Farm City Week, being held November 16-21.

A lifelong Marion County resident, Markham has dedicated more than six decades to agriculture, youth, and community service. His career and volunteer work have made a lasting impact on the local agricultural industry and generations of Marion County youth.

Markham has been a member of the Marion County and Florida Cattlemen's Associations for more than 50 years, serving as president and on the boards of both organizations. In 2014, he was recognized as a Florida Cattlemen's Association Honorary Director for his outstanding service and dedication to the cattle industry.

His commitment to youth agriculture is equally significant. Markham has been involved with the Southeastern Youth Fair for 45 years, serving in leadership roles and on both the swine and steer committees. He served as president and a member of the Executive Board, and the 2012 Southeastern Youth Fair was dedicated in his honor. He has also supported the Dunnellon FFA Alumni and youth livestock exhibitors, helping rally community support for their fair projects. His contributions to youth and agriculture were recognized by the National FFA Organization with a Certificate of Recognition for leadership, citizenship, and community development.

Markham's professional career spans 60 years in the cattle industry, including 32 years with the Florida Department of Agriculture, where he served as a livestock inspector and inspector supervisor. He has also worked with numerous cattle operations throughout Marion County, sharing his expertise in cow-calf management and cattle production.

Beyond agriculture, Markham has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to serving others. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971, including service in Vietnam, and has been actively involved in his church and community organizations.

Through decades of leadership, service, and dedication, Markham has made a lasting contribution to Marion County's agricultural community and its youth. His induction recognizes a lifetime of helping others, strengthening agriculture, and giving back to the community he has proudly called home.
