EFFORTS TO ENSURE SAFETY AND SECURE IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF MALAYSIANS IN

GLOBAL SUMUD FLOTILLA DETAINED BY ISRAEL

Further to its statement issued this morning, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to inform all concerned that the Government of Malaysia is taking necessary efforts to ensure safety and secure immediate release of the participants of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), in particular 15 Malaysians, who have been detained by Israel on the 2nd of October 2025. Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dato' Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan, have been in contact with the leaders and counterparts of a number of our partners, including the United States, to seek cooperation of their good offices in this regard.

At the same time, the Foreign Minister has issued a directive to our relevant Missions in the region, including our Embassies in Amman and Cairo, to seek cooperation of the Embassies of ASEAN countries in Tel Aviv.

The Ministry has since received information that all detainees are safe and in good health, and they will be deported to third countries. The Ministry will ensure that they will be provided with necessary consular support and assistance for their safe return to Malaysia.

The Government of Malaysia will continue to safeguard the safety of Malaysians abroad. The Government further emphasises that the detention of the GSF participants is unlawful, and insists that those detained should be treated in accordance with international law and released without delay.
