The Sister Mary Frances Warde Award is the highest award conferred each year to the graduate who transferred to Mount Mercy and who, in addition to academic excellence, exemplifies leadership, service, integrity in personal relationships, and loyalty in furthering the ideals of the university. The award is named for Sister Mary Frances Warde, who founded the Sisters of Mercy in America in 1843 after bringing the Sisters of Mercy from Carlow, Ireland, to the United States with courage and faithfulness.
Described by one nominator as "an indispensable academic and social pillar" on campus, Clarissa made an immediate impact at Mount Mercy through her leadership, involvement, and dedication to serving others. In addition to competing as a member of the women's volleyball team, Clarissa served as president of the MMU Ambassadors, where she worked closely with the Admissions Department to train student ambassadors and welcome prospective students and families to campus.
"This role requires her to be a trusted face of the university, and she handles that responsibility with great character and loyalty," one nominator shared. "She has truly made Mount Mercy her home, and in doing so, has made the campus a better place for every person she meets."
Clarissa's campus involvement extended across numerous organizations and leadership roles. She worked in the Academic Center for Excellence as a content tutor, peer coach, and writing assistant. She was also involved in the Gaming Club and Social Work Club, served as an AmeriCorps Mustang Mentor, worked as events coordinator for the Bandana Project, and held leadership positions within Gen1 and the Student Government Association.
Another nominator praised Clarissa's passion for advocacy and service, saying, "What is most impressive is her passion for making our community better and helping people who may be struggling. Whether it is the people she cares about, the causes that matter to her, or the injustices that she sees in the world, she is passionate about supporting others and advocating for what is right and just. She embodies the Mount Mercy mission of providing compassionate service to those in need."
Congratulations, Clarissa!
